Free Stuff To Do At Singapore Heritage Fest 2022

Singapore Heritage Fest 2022 will be running from 2 May to 29 May 2022 with over a hundred physical and digital programmes. Most of these programmes are paid activities but there are still some free events. I have looked through all of them and filtered out all these free events into the three following categories. If you are interested in the full list of activities available during the festival, you can check it out here. Please double-check the websites for the latest information and updates.

First-Come-First-Served – Activities With Limited Tickets

These free events have limited tickets so grab them while stocks last. Slots for some events were released on 21 April 2022 (the day I am writing this) and on the same day, all slots are gone. Please make sure you can attend these sessions before booking.

Walking Tour at Pioneers Trail

Description: See our City in Nature in a new light as you explore historical places in the Chinatown district amidst pockets of green. Led by a volunteer guide from the National Parks Board (NParks) Civic District team, your walk down memory lane begins at Telok Ayer Park.

Living Legacies: Of Roots & Leaves – Alysha Rahmat Shah’s Embroidery Workshops

Morning with a Veteran Frame Maker

Description: Frame Making used to be a niche business for a group of Indian Muslim migrants from Thopputhurai region in Tamil Nadu, India. Join for a live demonstration and hands-on experience of how a frame is built for a typical A4 size photograph.

Homeground

Description: The Singapore HeritageFest presents Homeground – an installation that explores the intersections of the festival’s two themes of travel / tourism and natural heritage. Reflecting on the simple joys of travelling, the installation features a life-sized train inspired by the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) train that used to run from Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.

Exploration of City Jungle

Description: Get lost in our 4-storey Green Oasis, our spiralling botanical promenade within CapitaSpring which is home to over 38,000 plants with more than 70 types of plant species. Located 100m above ground, families and shutterbugs can take a leisurely stroll around the naturally-ventilated garden.

The “Secret Ingredients” Food Travelling Exhibition

Description: Be amazed by how Singapore’s multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment has enriched the local Chinese culture through a contemporary display of eight local dishes — a part of the food travelling exhibition showcasing the “ingredients” that led to the development of a distinctive Chinese Singaporean culture.
